Reading Ladder

February 2019

  • Ready Player One (372 Pages)
  • Harcourt Shakespeare Romeo and Juliet Second Edition (81 Pages)
  • Reading Rate: 16 pages per day

A book I really enjoyed this month is Ready Player One by Ernest Cline. This book had 372 pages and I finished reading it in about a week. I have never read a book that fast in my life because I am not much a reader. Even though this is the first time I have read a book this quick, I would give it a 9/10 because it was missing some information and one chapter was pretty bad and I was about to put the book down.

In my English class we are studying Shakespeare’s play Romeo and Juliet. This is the first time I read Romeo and Juliet and it wasn’t that bad. Some things I didn’t like were some lines were really confusing since English has changed a lot over time and some scenes are unnecessary or boring. A lot of people dislike Shakespeare but his writing is not that bad. So far I would give it a 5 out of 10.

March 2019

  • The Hunger Games (190 Pages)
  • Harcourt Shakespeare Romeo and Juliet Second Edition (216 Pages)
  • Reading Rate: 13 pages per day

This month I read The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. The beginning of the book was good but then I started to get bored and I put the book down for a while. Then I picked it up and continued and the story got good again, so I continued reading it again. But the same thing as last time happened and I ended up returning the book without finishing it.

This month we finally finished reading Shakespeare’s play Romeo and Juliet. It wasn’t that bad and I actually enjoyed it a little but then the writing got really confusing again and it was hard to decode. This play is for sure better than some of others Shakespeare work and I would give it a 6/10.

April 2019

  • The Sea Devil (6 pages)
  • The Lifeguard (12 pages)
  • Just Lather, That’s All (5 pages)
  • Dancer (4 pages)
  • Reading Rate: 0.9 pages per day

In my English class we all read The Sea Devil. The story is good but I did get confused at some points. The ending was also satisfying as the main character had learned a new lesson.

In my English class we all read The Lifeguard. In my opinion it wasn’t as good as the Sea Devil but it was less confusing and easy to read.

Just Lather, That’s All is great. In my English class we read a lot of short stories and this is one of the best stories. The use of imagery was amazing because it felt like I was there with the characters. Its amazing how this story is only 5 pages long.

Dancer was okay. It was kind of boring to me, but it still had a good theme or message.

May 2019

  • The Tunnel (7 pages)
  • What Language do Bears Speaks (10 pages)
  • Reading Rate: 0.5 pages per day

The Tunnel. This complicated story almost brought down my English mark by probably…. not a lot, but still it was hard to write an essay on it when I couldn’t even understand what the story was about. I even read the story three times but it was still so confusing. It kind of makes sense to me now but still this story was the most confusing of all the short stories I have read this year.

The last short story I read with my English class is What Language do Bears Speaks. It was a funny short story with an unexpected ending.

June 2019

  • To Kill a Mockingbird (50 pages)
  • Reading Rate: 2 pages per day

To Kill a Mockingbird was boring at first but then slowly started to become more interesting. The thing is I only read the first part of the book and then a random chapter in the middle, for a presentation I had to make but failed miserably, but from what I heard it sounds like a good book.
